Artwork Guidlines
1. File Types
Best option: PDF (print‑ready, fonts included)
Also OK: Illustrator (AI), EPS, TIFF
Please avoid: Word, PowerPoint, Canva links, screenshots, or low‑quality images
2. Colours
- Artwork must be set to CMYK (print colours), not RGB (screen colours).
- If you are using a special colour (Pantone), make sure it is clearly labelled.
- Remove any unused colours before sending the file.
3. Image Quality
- Images should be high resolution:
- Standard print: 300 dpi
- Large posters/banners: 150–240 dpi
- Images taken from websites or social media are usually too low quality.
4. Bleed & Margins (Very Important)
- Add 3 mm bleed on all sides (this allows for trimming).
- Keep text and logos at least 3–5 mm away from the edge.
- Anything too close to the edge may be cut off.
5. Text & Fonts
- Make sure all fonts are embedded or outlined.
- Avoid very small text:
- Minimum 6 pt for black text
- Minimum 7 pt for white text on dark backgrounds
- Black text should be black only, not a mix of colours.
6. Black Colour Use
- Small text: Black only (100% K)
- Large black areas (backgrounds): use rich black for a deeper colour
7. Images & Effects
- Make sure all images are included in the file (not missing links).
- Flatten effects like shadows or transparency where possible.
- Check nothing important disappears when printing.
8. Special Finishes (If Applicable)
If your job includes any of the following, please let us know and supply clear instructions:
- Die‑cut shapes
- Foil blocking
- Embossing or debossing
- Spot UV or varnish
These should be supplied as clearly named layers or colours.
9. Proofing – Your Final Check
Before approving artwork, please check:
- Spelling and contact details
- Image quality
- Colours
- Layout and spacing
Once artwork is approved, we cannot be responsible for errors in the file.
10. File Naming & Sending
- Use clear file names (example): JobName_Size_Version_Date.pdf
- Send files using the agreed method (email, WeTransfer, etc.).
Friendly Warnings (Common Mistakes We See)
Just a heads-up — these are the most common issues that cause delays or reprints:
- Images from Google or social media often look fine on screen but print blurry.
- No bleed added can result in white edges after trimming.
- Text too close to the edge may get cut off.
- RGB colours can print very differently from what you see on screen.
- Fonts not embedded may change or disappear.
- Spelling mistakes are easy to miss — please double-check names, numbers, and emails.
- Last‑minute changes after approval may cause delays or extra costs.
We’re always happy to check artwork early — it’s much easier to fix things before printing.
